Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office Hosts Drug Drop-Off Event, Collects Over 300 Pounds of Drugs

The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office held its 24th “Sarpy County Medicine Drop” event on Saturday. The purpose of the event is to “take back” and collect unused or expired prescription medications and allows people to easily drop off their medications. The event took place in the parking lot west of the Hy-Vee Grocery Store located at 11650 S. 73rd Street in Papillion.Ten bags of prescription drugs weighing a total of 305 pounds were recovered during the event.The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, the Sarpy County District Attorney’s Office, Papillion Sanitation, the DEA and Hy-Vee participated in the four-hour drug distribution event. The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office said they would like to thank all of the agencies and businesses that participated in this event, but more importantly, the public for bringing in unused/expired prescription medications. Collected drugs will be incinerated by the DEA to ensure proper destruction.
