Miami doctor arrested after being caught illegally selling prescription drugs to confidential informant, police said
Dr Mark Zager, 72, was arrested Thursday on charges of possession with intent to sell controlled substances, fraudulent prescribing of a controlled substance and possession of drugs without a prescription, Miami-Dade prison records show.
An arrest report said Zager, who practices family medicine in South Miami, was investigated by Miami and Coral Gables Police.
Last month, a confidential informant arranged to buy 90 prescription Xanax pills from Zager for $ 200, according to the report.
And on Tuesday, the informant arranged to buy 30 Viagra pills and 20 hydrocodone pills from Zager for $ 600, according to the report.
The report states that the informant told Zager that he did not have a medical need for the drugs but wanted them recreationally.
Zager had told the informant that instead of going to his doctor’s office, the informant should come to Zager to complete the sales, according to the report.
“The three prescriptions were issued in bad faith and not in the context of professional practice,” the report said.
Zager was sentenced to jail where he remained on $ 35,500 bail Friday, records show. Information on the lawyer was not available.
